Maryland Insurance Continuing Education (CE Requirements
CPMI Insurance Continuing Education Courses (CE) are specially designed to meet Maryland Insurance Administration’s license renewal requirements. Use our affordable insurance continuing education online course packages to fulfil your hour requirements, pass your continuing education (CE) exam(s), and ensure your Maryland license will be valid for another two years.

To renew their licenses, insurance producers must complete at least 24 hours of CE every other year. Maryland has its own specific credit hour requirements, which are:
- Licensees can renew all of their 24 CE hours via self-study.
- Life and Health or Property and Casualty producers must complete 3 hours of ethics CE.
- Resident licensees licensed continuously for 25 years prior to October 2008 must complete only 8 hours of CE, including 3 hours of ethics.
- Agents who sell flood insurance or LTC must complete at least 2 hours of CE directly related to those subjects every renewal period.
- Title-only producers and Life-only producers who are licensed separately as a funeral director or mortician only need to complete 16 hours of CE.
Nonresident licensees, HMO only, travel, and credit producers are regarded as exempt from Maryland insurance CE. Attorneys in good standing licensed only to sell title insurance are also exempt from taking insurance continuing education.
Time for your Maryland insurance license renewal? It's important to know the requirements:
- 24 hours of continuing-education (CE) are required every 2 years.
- At least 3 of those hours must be in ethics.
- CE breakdowns vary by line of authority.
- Flood: 2-hour requirement every 2 years in a course designated "Flood."
- Long Term Care Renewal: 2 hours every 2 years in a course designated "Long Term Care" (state requirement).
- Annuity Requirement: One-time 4-hour course prior to selling annuities.
- Online, textbook, or classroom courses are acceptable.
- Courses must be completed in the line held.
- EX: LH/PC combined licenses must complete 25% in each line, i.e., 6 hours in LH and 6 hours in PC.
- Course completion exams are not open book and do not require a proctor.
Insurance producers cannot:
- Carry over extra hours to the next renewal period.
- Take a course for credit more than once in the 2-year license term.
- If a course is repeated in 2 consecutive license terms, there must be at least 6 months between completion dates.
After you pass our course, we will send your completion information on to the Maryland Department of Insurance in conjunction with Prometric. Insurance producers outside of Maryland are encouraged to view the National Insurance Producer Registry for more information about insurance license renewals in other states.
