New York Insurance Producer Continuing Education

New York insurance continuing education requirements for agent license renewal are set forth by the New York Insurance Department, after your first license renewal you will be required to complete 15 hours of approved CE courses before any subsequent renewals will be approved.

If you have multiple licenses and complete continuing education credits that do not count towards a particular line, you must complete the required hours to match the licenses that you hold.

The New York Department of Insurance does not require CE for the renewal of Independent Adjuster, Bail Bond, Mortgage Guarantee, or Re-insurance Intermediary licenses. All other licensed producers must obtain appropriate CE credits every NY insurace license renewal period.

Under federal law, even exempt individuals must take the required LTC course before they can begin selling long term care policies.

New York License Renewal Requirements

Time for your New York insurance license renewal? It's important to know:

  • 15 hours of CE are required every two year license term.
  • Producers licensed in L/H & P/C must complete 30 CE hours instead of 15.
  • Course completion exams must be taken with a state-approved monitor.
  • Agents must take courses approved for the lines they are licensed in.
  • You must pass your course completion exam with a 70% or better
  • Extra credit hours do not carry over to the next renewal period.
  • Courses cannot be repeated for credit.
