Adjuster in Business - An employee of an insurance company dealing with property and casualty policies whose role it is to settle claims on behalf of the company. An adjuster's job is to evaluate the merits of each individual claim and provide the company with recommendations on how to proceed.

Similarly, an independent adjuster is an independent contractor who acts as an adjuster for various property and casualty insurance companies. Similar to insurance agents, insurance adjusters are regulated by the state and must obtain an insurance adjuster's license.
