Connecticut Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

License Renewal Requirements
In Connecticut, an insurance producer's license will expire every two years on the producer's birth date. The renewal fee is doubled for a late renewal. Avoid the birthday headache by getting a head start on your certification. Producers must complete:
- 24 total hours of CE
- A minimum of 3 hours in Law/Ethics/Regulation
Effective November 11, 2021, producers must complete their Connecticut insurance continuing education (CE) requirement before submitting renewal fees through the National Insurance Producer Registry. Individuals whose CE requirements are not posted as compliant by the last day of their birth month will not be able to submit their renewal application and fee.
- If the CE requirements are completed on time (by the license expiration date) and posted by the provider within ten (10) days, producers will be allowed to renew with the applicable renewal fee.
- If the CE requirements are completed after the producers expiration date, the licensee will be charged the late renewal fee.
A few insurance producers are exempt from mandatory continuing education (CE) courses. You do not have to complete CE to renew your license if you hold only a surety bail bond, credit, an accident/travel baggage license or an adjuster’s license.
Time for your Connecticut insurance license renewal? It's important to know the requirements:
- Take 24 hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years.
- 3 hours must be in Law/Ethics/Regulation.
- Pass your proctored, closed-book course completion examination.
In Connecticut:
- Online, textbook, or classroom courses are acceptable.
- Courses cannot be repeated during a 2-year license term.
- Credit hours in excess of 24 do not carry over for your next renewal.
