MI Insurance Producer Continuing Education

Michigan insurance continuing education required credit hours must be completed every two years per the requirements of the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

All licensed resident producers must complete 24 hours of CE every two years, including 3 hours of ethics courses to fulfill Michigan insurance license renewal requirements for Life and Health or for Property and Casualty.

Michigan Insurance CE Requirements
  • MI renewal requires 24 hours of CE (3 in ethics).
  • Producers born in even years will renew in even years by the last day of their birth month, if you were born in an odd year, you will renew in odd years.
  • Courses may not be repeated more than once in any renewal period.
  • Excess credit hours do not carry over towards the next licensing period requirement.
Michigan Continuing Education Exemptions

Limited life; turkey, crop, and hail; travel, accident, and baggage; title; and credit only producers are not required to complete CE for license renewal

Nonresident producers are not required to comply with Michigan insurance license renewal requirements.

Under federal law, even exempt individuals must take the required LTC course before they can begin selling long term care policies.
