AL Continuing Ed (CE) Course Materials
Alabama insurance producers are required to complete their continuing education requirement biennially (once every two years) with at least 24 hours of approved instruction, of which 3 hours must be in ethics.
For service representatives and Alabama-only producers employed by another producer or insurer to work only in the office of the employer, these requirements are halved, for twelve total hours and 1.5 hours of ethics.
Alabama Insurance CE Requirements- 24 hours every two years (3 of which must be ethics).
- The same course cannot count twice in one reporting period.
- Non-resident licensees who comply with home state CE requirements are exempt.
- Producers are not required to take courses related to their licensed lines of authority, any approved course is acceptable.
- Up to 24 credits from your previous reporting period can be used towards your subsequent license renewal CE requirement.
If you are an Alabama producer licensed only for lines of authority for which an examination is not required, or if you hold a professional designation that would exempt you from normal pre-licensing requirements, you are not required to take AL CE courses. Additionally, producers licensed for at least 15 years and over 60 years of age are exempt from continued CE requirements.
Any member of the Alabama state legislature during any portion of of the license reporting period is also exempt from the insurance continuing education requirement.
Under federal law, even exempt individuals must take the required LTC course before they can begin selling long term care policies.
